Local Insight
AI Development Agencies in the UK
The useful division in UK custom AI development is where the model ends up running. A small group builds for hardware and constrained environments: Digica in Manchester publishes sensor fusion, convolutional networks trained on synthetic images, and language models running on Arm CPUs for edge devices; Fuzzy Labs put computer vision onto edge devices for PEBL's seaweed farm monitoring, where inference has to work without a reliable connection; Sonrai Analytics in Belfast builds computational-pathology systems on its own platform. Most of the rest builds into the cloud. Kortical delivers models end to end on its own AI platform, Marionete builds enterprise data platforms with a nearshore delivery office in Lisbon, and Datatonic, Ekimetrics, Satalia and Faculty AI take the enterprise end from London. Scale varies enormously: Kainos, N-iX and Vention each list a thousand or more staff and sell delivery capacity, while Fast Data Science, Kortical, Hexploits and Wolf Logic work from benches of under ten.
Most of this roster publishes an hourly band and the range is €20-260, which is not a quality ladder—the cheapest entries are engineering groups selling capacity, the dearest is a small specialist in clinical and pharmaceutical language work. Decide which of those you are buying before comparing quotes. Then settle ownership at proposal stage rather than at handover: whose cloud account the system lives in, who holds the code and the model artifacts, and what the client can run without the supplier. Hexploits states plainly that the client owns the codebase afterward, which is the standard to hold the others to.
